FTP Tutorial

Open your FTP client and find the files that you want to upload.
(Print this page and refer to it as you go along.)

When uploading to your website for the first time it is necessary to load everything you see in the left pane of the FTP.  (Not just the index.htm page)   Because these are the files that act as messengers that tell the server how to display your pages.  If this is not done at the start properly your website simply will not work.

These are files that are created by MS-FrontPage that govern how this information is to be used to allow your website to function properly.  It is necessary to select and upload all of these files into your sub-directory that I created for your website.  After these directories and files are uploaded you can then add pictures and new pages as you create new material to be published.  But without these directories/files your website will not work.

Hold down the Ctrl key and click each file to select it.  It will turn blue when selected properly.

After you selected the proper files click on the lower arrow in the graphic below . The files will automatically flow to the right hand plane and be uploaded to your website.

If the files do not move to the right the FTP has probably timed out. There is a time limit the server will wait. You don’t have to rush but don’t take too long.  Not over two minutes. Close and restart the FTP tool all over again.
